I am writing this email to enquire about the Stem Cell Transplant Unit in Pretoria that was discussed in a recent newspaper article. I am 35 years old and suffering with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). Given that this is a degenerative muscular disease, my age has greatly deteriorated my quality of life. Hence, I am interested in any medical break-through to improve my health and quality of life. I have been successfully accepted for Stem Cell Therapy at the Bheki Institute in China. However, I would like to first ascertain if I might be eligible for similar treatment in South Africa before we consider the Chinese option. I would be very appreciative of a response to my inquiry.
